With around 1.89 million inhabitants, Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and the third largest in the German-speaking area . With around 755 square kilometers, Hamburg is the second largest municipality in Germany. The urban area is divided into seven districts and 104 districts, including the Neuwerk district , a group of islands in the North Sea .

The Port of Hamburg is one of the largest transshipment ports in the world and, together with the international airport , makes Hamburg an important logistics location . Economically and scientifically, the metropolis is particularly important in the areas of aerospace technology , life sciences and information technology as well as for the consumer goods industry and as a media location . Since 1996, Hamburg has also been the seat of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ISGH).

Hamburg is experiencing strong growth in international city tourism . In the annual ranking of cities with the highest quality of life in the world by the consulting company EIU , Hamburg fell from 13th place to 47th place in 2021.The Speicherstadt and the neighboring Kontorhausviertel have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015 . more

St. Michael's Church, is one of Hamburg's five Lutheran main churches (Hauptkirchen) and one of the most famous churches in the city. St. Michaelis is a landmark of the city and it is considered to be one of the finest Hanseatic Protestant baroque churches. The church was purposely built Protestant unlike many other Hamburg churches which were originally built by Roman Catholics and were converted to Protestantism during the Reformation. It is dedicated to the Archangel Michael. A large bronze statue, standing above the portal of the church shows the archangel conquering the devil.more

The Elbphilharmonie (also known as Elphi for short ) is a concert hall in Hamburg that was completed in November 2016 . It was planned with the aim of creating a new landmark for the city and a “cultural monument for everyone”.The 110 meter high building in the HafenCity district is located on the right bank of the Norderelbe at the tip of the Großer Grasbrook between the mouths of the Sandtorhafen and Grasbrookhafen harbor basins. It was built using the shell of the former Kaispeicher A (built in 1963). A modern structure with a glass facade was placed on this base, which is intended to be reminiscent of sails , water waves , icebergs or a quartz crystal . The location at Kaiserhöft is characterized by the former industrial port use and the neo- Gothic brick architecture of the Speicherstadt . more

The Hamburg Town Hall is the seat of the Hamburg Citizenship and the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The architecturally magnificent building on the Kleine Alster was built between 1886 and 1897 in the historicist style of the North German Neo-Renaissance. The tower is 112 meters high and, alongside the towers of Hamburg's main churches , is an important landmark in Hamburg's cityscape. more
